Danny and Brandon are in town from Georgia for a couple of weeks of training and wanted to give fly fishing a try while they were here. We decided to head out to the Oldman River which is a great location for first time fly fishers. The river and scenery are spectacular, the fish are usually eager to take dry flies, and by the end of the day, most fishers are doing a good job of reading the water on this smaller river and have a pretty good sense of where the fish are holding. Despite having to deal with fairly strong winds most of the day, both Danny and Brandon looked comfortable with the fly rods early on. They landed a few Rocky Mountain whitefish, and a number of rainbow trout and cutthroat trout. As we headed back to the 4Runner at sunset, we had an opportunity to watch a mountain goat and it's young forage on a mountain side. It was a great end to a wonderful day on the Oldman River.

Art and Dave joined me for a drift down the Bow today. I guess the two words that would describe our day would have to be HOT and SLOW. Fishing wise it was a pretty frustrating day as only one fish was brought to the boat. We tried a wide variety of flies today but just never found anything that the fish found too interesting. Other guides that I spoke with at the end of the day also found the fishing very slow and reported landing very few fish. It looks like we have a few days of cooler weather coming before it heats up again for the weekend. Hopefully fishing will improve if we do get cooler temperatures for a couple of days.

Nathan is in town from Kansas City on business and took a couple of extra days to visit family. Today, he and his dad, Tom, took time to drift the Bow River from McKinnon Flats to Carseland. Even though the fishing was quite slow, we managed to land ten fish. Three or four of the fish we landed were small rainbows but Nathan did land this nice 20 inch rainbow and finished up by landing the only brown for the day. Again today we tried a wide varitey of flies. Fish were taking worm patterns, woolly buggers, Bow River buggers, and smaller leach patterns, but didn't seem interested in any of the smaller nymphs we threw their way. It was another hot day on the Bow but at least we weren't dealing with the humidity that made fishing the last few times out so uncomfortable.
