July Fishing Trips part 3
July 13, 2007,
Mike and his sons, Mike, Colin, and Mark, are in town from Minnesota for a few days and they were all eager to get on the Bow for a day of fly fishing. A couple of browns and many rainbows were landed, mostly on size 10 peacock and black wooly buggers and large golden stonefly nymphs. Many of the fish landed were in the 16 to 19 inch range but some 20+ inch fish were also brought to the boat. We had a great day on the river and all were impressed with the fight in our remarkable rainbow trout.

A break from guiding today so I had an opportunity to spend time on the Bow River with my friends, Quinn and John. It's been pretty warm for the past several days and today was no exception; by noon it was quite hot on the river. I'm not sure if it was the heat, but fishing did seem to be abit slower today than it has been the previous few days. We landed 6 or 7 fish and probably lost at least that many and again fishing deep seemed to be the way to go. It's always great to get on the Bow when someone else is rowing and I'm looking forward to getting out and enjoying the river again soon.

Walt was back for one more day on the Bow before returning to Houston and today he brought Jason along to experience this great river. We started the day fishing small wooly buggers, stoneflies, and worms and about 5 minutes into the float, Walt landed a nice rainbow. Jason had limited fly fishing experience but after a few pointers and a little practice, he was doing just fine. By the end of the day, Jason landed both a brown and a rainbow and lost several others. With the temperatures rising over the past few days we have been adding weight to get the flies deeper and that seems to be getting us more action than when the weight is not on.
